Shroud, who has skyrocketed into superstardom within the gaming world, has gone from intense e-sports tournaments to comfortable gaming sessions accompanied by his followers on Twitch. Being one of the largest channels on Twitch, Shroud has garnered a lot of attention regardless of what game he’s playing. Shroud is very talented when it comes to first-person shooters, and that’s where he started to make a name for himself.
A lot of people who follow Shroud want to mimic his talents by looking at what he does, analyzing his moves, and using the same setup as he does. His high-end equipment provides the type of quality needed to accompany his natural talent, but it doesn’t make him what he is.
Shroud’s 2021 gaming setup includes an Alienware 27″ AW2721D Gaming Monitor. The monitor is designed for high-paced action gaming at an elite level. The Alienware 27″ is a Full-HD, 240 hz monitor that can be seen at e-sport tournaments all over the world. Other profiles in the community can also be seen rocking the same monitor, and even teams – the monitor is the official monitor used by Team Liquid.
Shroud’s Alienware 27″ is a great monitor that’s been praised by developers, gamers, streamers, and other people all over the world. While I don’t know if the monitor is a sponsor thing, I find it reassuring that Shroud has chosen this monitor when he has the ability to pick any setup he could desire. In the end, it’s Shroud who’s going to spend hours on end in front of the monitor while he’s streaming so he better like it.

What Monitor Did Shroud Use 2020?
Considering the price of the Alienware 27″ Gaming Monitor, I decided to backtrack to 2020 to include Shroud’s old monitor for those who think his current one is a bit too expensive at the moment but still want to purchase a monitor that Shroud has vouched for. Back in 2020, Shroud was using the BenQ ZOWIE XL2540 before he upgraded to the Alienware monitor he’s rocking now.
The BenQ ZOWIE is, just like the Alienware, capable of displaying 240hz if the computer’s GPU is good enough. The monitor is also known in the gaming industry and frequently seen on desks all over the world on both Twitch, Youtube, and E-Sport Tournaments. It’s a great monitor that’s slightly cheaper than the Alienware, but still on the pricey end of the spectrum for those of us who don’t earn millions streaming on Twitch.
Nvidia has certified the XL2540’s adaptive sync as one of the G-sync compatible monitors on the market.
Are Gaming Monitors Worth It?
But can the extra bang that gaming monitors seem to provide be justified? The answer to that question is that it depends entirely on who you are and what you intend to do. For Shroud, the purchase of an Alienware 27″ Gaming Monitor wasn’t a hard decision considering how much he uses it for his full-time work.
But what about regular gamers who just want a good setup to enjoy their favorite games seamlessly?
Gaming monitors are worth it if you have a high-end computer. You need a high-end monitor with a high enough refresh rate in order to get the most out of your gaming computer. There’s no need for a top gaming computer if you don’t have a monitor that’s capable of displaying the frames you’re getting out of it. A 240hz monitor could be a bit over the top if it was combined with a mediocre GPU, but it will offer a great experience when combined with a good GPU.
